Duke of Hazard

A group of my co-workers and I just got back from a trip to Kentucky, where I had the pleasure of working with Bob Hammond and the great folks at Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS). One of the highlights of the trip was receiving the key to the city of Hazard and being named a "Duke of Hazard" by the Honorable William Gorman the Mayor of Hazard, Kentucky.

Good Morning,

I ran 3 miles today. It felt pretty good considering I was hurting sunday and monday from the 10 miler I did over the weekend. I guess this has become a habit. Speaking of which here is a little something that I hope you will like.

I am your constant companion. I am your greatest helper or heaviest burden. I will push you onward or drag you down to failure. I am completely at your command. Half the things you do might just as well be turned over to me and I will be able to do them quickly and correctly. I am easily managed--you must merely be firm with me. Show me exactly how you want something done and after a few lessons I will do it automatically. I am the servant of all great people and, alas, of all failures, as well. Those who are great, I have made great. Those who are failures, I have made failures. I am not a machine, though I work with all the precision of a machine plus the intelligence of a person. You may run me for profit or run me for ruin -- if makes no difference to me. Take me, train me, be firm with me, and I will place the world at your feet. Be easy with me and I will destroy you. Who am I? I am habit! --- Author Unknown

Sunday Long Run

Good Evening,

Today was a wonderful day as are all days that I wake up. I am trying a new approach to my training. On Sundays I will do my long runs. Today I ran 10 miles and I felt great until my MP3 player ran out of batteries and I realized that my knee was still hurting from helping a friend move on Saturday. However, the thought that keeps crossing my mind is "26 Miles for 26 Families" that worked for the first 9 miles. However, on mile 10, I was hurting.
One of the things that I love about running is the fact that I get to do a lot of reflecting, thinking...just let my mind wonder... While running, I though of a Persian Proverb that I once heard. I decided that I would share it with you. This is something that just popped in my head and I am sharing it.

He who knows not,And knows not that he knows not, Is a fool - shun him.
He who knows not, And knows that he knows not,Is a child - teach him.
He who knows,And knows not that he knows,Is asleep - wake him.
He who knows, And knows that he knows, Is wise - follow him.

Well on that note, it's 11:13 PM and I have homework to work on and I may even work on my website. Have a great night.

Countdown to Nov. 7th...

Hello,
The training is getting easier. I ran 6 miles today which is 3 more than what I had planned. While running, I was enjoying all of the beautiful trees around the track that I ran. One of the things that kept popping in my head was how blessed I am. The fact that I am able to even consider making a positive difference in the 26 families that I am going to sponsor, makes me really happy. When I got home I was browsing on the web and I found this poem which I wanted to share with you. I truly enjoyed it. What is funny is that today I was talking to a friend and I mentioned many of the same things in this poem.

A Life Poem
Life can seem ungrateful and not always kind.
Life can pull at your heartstrings and play with your mind...
Life can be blissful and happy and free...
Life can put beauty in the things that you see...
Life can place challenges right at your feet...
Life can make good of the hardships we meet...
Life can overwhelm you and make your head spin...
Life can reward those determined to win...
Life can be hurtful and not always fair...
Life can surround you with people who care...
Life clearly does offer its Up and its Downs...
Life's days can bring you both smiles and frowns...
Life teaches us to take the good with the bad...
Life is a mixture of happy and sad...

So...

Take the Life that you have and give it your best...
Think positive, be happy let God do the rest...
Take the challenges that life has laid at your feet...
Take pride and be thankful for each one you meet...
To yourself give forgiveness if you stumble and fall...
Take each day that is dealt you and give it your all...
Take the love that you're given and return it with care...
Have faith that when needed it will always be there...
Take time to find the beauty in the things that you see...
Take life's simple pleasures let them set your heart free...
The idea here is simply to even the score...
As you are met and faced with Life's Tug of War

Make a positive difference.

Still Training

I just finish posting my class assignment with 2 minutes to spare.  This afternoon I had a nice run however, the heat was rough.  If you look at my schedule I did 4 miles.  This thursday I will do 3 and Saturday is my first long run.  I will run 13 miles.  Mind you at the pace that I am running I don't really know if you call this running.  It's more like an airborne shuffle.  But the objective is to finish and not to try and beat the Kenyans. Today while running I though of a story that I once read and love so I want to share it with you.  You may have heard it a thousand times however, this is one of those stories that will never get old.

                         The Wise Woman's Stone
A wise woman who was traveling in the mountains found a precious stone in a stream. The next day she met another traveler who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveler saw the precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him. She did so without hesitation. The traveler left rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime.
But, a few days later, he came back to return the stone to the wise woman. "I've been thinking," he said. "I know how valuable this stone is, but I give it back in the hope that you can give me something even more precious. Give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me this stone." Sometimes it not the wealth you have but what's inside you that others need.

Well I must call it a night I will work on my website later this week.

It is 2 a.m. I am still working on the Website. I am going to call it a night since tomorrow will be a long day for me with work, run 4 miles after work, homework and the honey-do list that my wife will have for me.
